The Queen`s Commissioner

The Queen's Commissioner or Governor for the Province of Limburg, L.J.P.M. Frissen, is not an elected official but is appointed by the Crown [the Queen and her ministers]. The Governor is the chairman of both the Provincial Council and the Provincial Executive. In addition, he takes every opportunity to represent the Provincial Government in establishing important contacts for the Province.
He keeps abreast of events in Limburg by consulting regularly with local authorities. As a public official, he has very specific tasks, such as maintaining public order and drawing up recommendations for the appointment of mayors and local police commissioners. In addition, he is also involved in awarding royal honours and decorations, in deciding on petitions for naturalisation, and in the organisation of civil defence and emergency facilities in times of crisis. He also escorts members of the royal family on their visits to the Province.
